Project Overview:
Off-Register is a quarterly print magazine reviving the raw, analog energy of underground music and design. Equal parts archive and call to action, it celebrates the intersection of tactile design processes, expressive typography, subcultural aesthetics, and music history through interviews, tutorials, and bold visual storytelling.
Problem to solve:
Contemporary graphic design prioritizing polished mock‑ups over the analog tangible design process. Meanwhile, the visual heritage of alternative, and DIY scenes, album sleeves, gig posters, & zines only survive in fragmented personal archives or blurry scans of bad xerox copies from the 80s and 90s. The fallout is three‑fold:Designers suffer digital fatigue and lack tangible design.DIY production skills and the craft of various print are eroding.The natural synergy between music culture and graphic design remains under‑documented.
WHY
NOW?
A cultural shift is fueling demand for tactile, analog experiences—vinyl now outsells CDs, independent print sales are climbing, and printmaking classes like letterpress, risograph, and screen printing often have waitlists. There’s a revival of subcultural aesthetics in design, fashion, and independent publishing.
In a world oversaturated with soulless digital content, people are craving storytelling with grit, imperfection, and humanity. A print-first platform that bridges past and present is perfectly timed. Nostalgia, authenticity, and the hunger to be part of something real have never been more relevant.

Research:
Studied vintage punk zines, gig posters, and album layouts (1970s–1990s).Typography & Layout: Combined Swiss grid principles with chaotic DIY layering. Color & Print Production: Focused on Letterpress, screen print textures, and CMYK prep.
